Three Things Thursday

Three things about… Your Favorite Season

This is difficult. I love all seasons for different reasons. But Honestly, my favorite thing about the seasons is when it changes. It’s so exciting and new. Each season brings a new phase.

But my favorite season would have to be Spring.

1. Spring brings the promise of life. It brings flowers. That first glimpse of green, poking out from the once cold, frozen earth is the best feeling in the world. The Earth awakes from its long winter nap and we get to experience the beauty of it. And I tell ya, the Earth sure is a morning person! I must also say, that my favorite place to be during springtime is not the mountains. When I moved to Denver for school I remember being in complete awe of the trees on campus that actually bloomed! Trees that bloom are truly one of the most beautiful things.

2. Spring brings warmth. Once spring hits, you can feel the warmth in the air. A slight taste of the summer to come. Though it is still chilly, it is a different feel than that of the raw autumn chill. I love warmth, and just that slight change makes me smile.

3. Spring has the most amazing smells. It has the smell of freshly tilled soil, where seeds were just planted. It has the amazing, sweet smell of bearded iris as you stroll down the street. Spring brings the smell of rain (and yes most of the time snow as well). It has the scent of hope, of love, of beauty.

Three Things Thursday

So I have not been on top of Three Things Thursday… Benn a pretty busy last four weeks. Amie was here for two of those and she did not blog (because we were to busy hanging out) and I’ve been busy working away at Stems as well as random other projects I have going on. So yes. There are my excuses. Now on to Amie’s new question:

Three things about… Your Face

I read this and well. I am not quite sure what to say. She said you can be positive or negative but I am kinda indifferent about my face. So here we go.

1: I love my smile. It is my favorite thing about my face. Smiles are important to me on all faces. They tell you a lot about the person in swift movement. Your smile can be the difference in someone’s day. I love smiling at random people on the street and they are always slightly unsure of how to respond to it. But I swear it makes someones day turn around … even for a moment. So there ya go. I love my smile.

2: I have a TON of freckles. Not much to say about it. I’ve had them forever. Probably are never gunna go away. Some people like them, others don’t care, some have even tried to count them. No one has made it over counting 20. They get lost. I don’t wear make-up because it covers them up and I think I look strange with out them (I am also lazy and would rather sleep the extra 20 minutes instead of put on a different face).

3. My eyes change color from green to blue. Depends on the day and what I am wearing. They also go all squinty when I laugh.

SO there ya have it. My face. Hahahahaha!

Three Things Thursday

I missed last week. It was a bit busy for me. Funny how it relates to Amie’s topic this week.

Three things about… Your Work

There is a lot that I love about my work. Way more than just 3 things. And, I have more than one job (as many people do). The difference? I love all my jobs. Everyone of them. There is never a day that I don’t want to go to whatever job I am going to (ok, some mornings I’d just like to stay under the blankets, but can you blame me?).

1. I love life. I love creating. I love making people’s day. Its what I do. So where do I work? A flower shop of course! Its funny, no one is ever shocked I work at a place that is full of life and happy people. Haha! I guess it just fits. Stems a Flower Shop has been a part of me since high school. My first official job and I still have it. Most people can’t say that. The first time I went in to order a boutonniere for my boy friend I didn’t know more than the standard rose, tulip and iris. Seven years later? … Well I won’t bore you with all the info. Whats another fun thing? I actually have had two weddings this year where I’ve gotten to create the brides bouquet AND take her wedding photos. Networking – its a good thing! Hahaha! I love my job. The only bad thing about it? Rotten flower water. Its is the WORST SMELL in the world. People, change your flower water cuz it is nasty.

A sweet arrangement for fall!

2. My other love (and job) is capturing life. I hope that if you are a regular reader that you already know I’m a photographer, but if you didn’t know SURPRISE! I’m a photographer! 🙂 I own my own business. That is a full-time job. I am still up editing photos right now as a matter-a-fact. But I love taking one faction of a second that tells the story of that day. I love the art of photography but in all honesty, I love the people I work and the stories I am able to tell more. I have made so many new friends and they have let me document some of their most important moments. That is the highest honor for me. I love light. I love shadows. I love everything about photography, but it is the concept of if that I am most passionate about.

3. I am so lucky to love my jobs. I know too many people that don’t love what they do. Is it hard? O yeah. Loving your job does not make the labor less. Sometimes it makes it more just because you pour your heart and soul into it all. But that is how you know you love it. I have many other jobs, though most of those are volunteer and very random. They are anything from baby-sitter, to guidance councilor, to wedding planner, to a model, to an errand runner. I love teaching others. My most rewarding job? The photo editor of the Metropolitan. There are so many people I helped and now they are out in the world working for newspapers themselves. I feel like a proud mom! 🙂

I love my work. I love my life. I love all the people I get to work with. I could not ask for anything better. I am truly lucky to have the opportunities I’ve had in my life.

Three Things Thursday

Sorry this post is a little late this Thursday! Amie’s new question:

Three things about… The Past Year

There has been a lot that has happened in this past year. But I don’t know what year goes by and not much happens. Time is a strange thing we all have to adjust too. One minute I feel that the year has flown by in a quick opening of a shutter and the next, I’m thinking back to everything I’ve done and accomplished.

1. My business has grown so much over the past year. A year ago, I was just getting my website up and running with the 3 weddings I had under my belt. Since then I have become an official business with the state of Colorado as an LLC. and since the beginning of this year I have shot 12 weddings and counting. My dream is well on its way to a reality. Thank you to all of you who have supported me in my beginning phase of my business. I have made some great friends through my business and I have concluded that I love what I do. That is a lot to happen during a year. I am not where I thought I would be, but sometimes, that is even better than you planned.

2. In the past year, all of my close friends have become engaged! I am so excited for all 4 of them! Yes. Four of my friends will be tying the knot at some point next year. I am happy for all of them! I can’t believe that they have found the person they want to be with forever and I am looking forward to all their weddings.

3. I’ve learned a lot about myself. I think that is something that happens to everyone though. I’ve met some amazing people who have changed my life in so many ways. Some friends have become closer than I ever would have thought we would be, others I’ve just met and can’t wait to see again. There are people who inspire me to be all that I can be in all aspects of my life and those are the ones who have helped me to continue to find my true passions. New discoveries are always shocking and a lot of the time, you don’t even want them to happen because of the thicket you must fight your way through to get to the new path, but cuts heal and the new path before you seems like you just found the yellow brick road and the sky is the limit.

Three Things Thursday

This week, Amie has posed a bit tougher of a question…

Three things about… Where I’d like to Travel.

1. Anywhere that a sunrise happens. This is probably true for all photographers everywhere. As long as you can be out shooting at sunrise and sunset life is spectacular. Something about being out at that time of morning or evening does something for your soul.

2. Now I’ll be a tad more specific about where I’d like to go, though there are soooo many places on my list. I could just go to the air port and pick a random plane and be totally happy with where I’m going. International? I would love to visit Ireland. That is one of the most beautiful countries I have seen and I will go there one day. The images and video I’ve seen from that beautiful country take my breath away every time. And if that can happen from thousands of miles away? I don’t even know what would happen being there in person.

3. Not all my places are international either. There are hundreds of places just in the USA that I would like to visit too. Going to Olympia National park has been a goal of mine for over 3 years now. I also want to see New England at any time of the year, I would love to go there during the fall though. I love aspens and their colors, but I’d love to see maples in autumn. I’m not a huge city girl, but of course everyone wants to experience New York and I would not turn down that trip. Last fall I visited Washington D.C. for a few days and I would gladly go back there to visit again! Last time we tried the condensed Smithsonian version – ALL the mall in a day. (Not recommended hahah!)

Three Things Thursday

Hello out there! I swear I am still alive and kicking! I have been so busy with a verity of different projects I have not had the organization to blog. This was brought to my attention by one of my diehard supporters and followers – my mom 🙂

I got a formal complaint that not everyone is on a social networking site. And you know what? She is right. My good friend Jenn LeBlanc and I were discussing this complaint yesterday. Though I have not been as up to speed on my blog, I have been trying to keep my Facebook Page fairly up to date. Facebook is like lazy blogging Jenn and I decided. And I promise to you that I will get you all caught up on my actual blog soon!

Now on to the post:

My best friend Amie has her own blog and she has created Three Things Thursday and I have decided to participate. (Actually, I decided I wanted to a while ago, but Thursday always ended to quickly!) SO basically, she comes up with a theme for the post and then I will answer the questions. I think it is a cool way for you to get to know me, or if you know me well, learn what you don’t know!

So here it is:

Three things about …. Where I’ve traveled.

1. First, I love to travel. It does not matter how far or how close to home. I love it. I am one of those people that does not get tired of traveling. Most people I know are ready to go home by the end of the trip. I tell ya, if it was not for those I love, I would probably still be traveling somewhere. Coming back home is a bit depressing for me. Just because I have to get back into my normal routine and I have to get back to life. Traveling is like becoming someone else completely. You stress and stress till the day you leave town and then you say, screw it. I can’t get anything else done, I’m outta here! Then you are free from your life for however long you are gone.

Albert didn't know that those big bottles full of liquids and gels would not make it through security.

2. Local: I grew up in Colorado, and I have traveled much of the state it self, there are a lot of places to go just in Colorado! And each area holds a fond memory.

I have a small family, and we are the only ones that ventured to Colorado, so I’ve done a lot of traveling to see family in the States. My mom’s family lives down south, (Alabama and N.Carolina) – but I’ve been to all the southern states. That is my favorite area to visit. Just visit, I don’t know if I could live there. They have the most amazing food, the awesome “old south feeling,” and I love the humidity and what it does for plant-life down there. Moss growing on houses? WOW! I spent a lot of my summers in Alabama.  My dad’s parents and my best friend from Elementary school lived in Chicago so I’ve been to Illinois plenty of times as well. That was the first time I took a flight alone was to see my friend. I have taken a ton of different transportation methods across the states. I’ve taken Amtrak, Greyhound, the trusty Subaru Loyal and Ford Ranger, as well as plenty of different air lines. I like all for different reasons. But I do love to fly the most. It is so exciting! I love going through all the different steps. I’ve been to most states, except Pacific North west and Alaska, and the north east coast. I have been to Hawaii, but what I remember most was that they had giant snails and I got to feed the big fish in the fish pond- (I was 5).

3. Not so Local: I have been to Mexico, South Africa and Lesotho. This list will grow. I love traveling international. I went to Mexico with Amie and her Husband (then boyfriend) and that was one of the best trips I’ve had. Amie has inspired me to travel to many places. Next up on my international list? Germany to see her! Mexico was a “spring break” trip – that did not involve a lot of typical spring break partying (we are not so into that). Instead we went to festivals the locals had, drove around the island of Cozumel (where we stayed) visited the ruins of Tulum and so much more. We were gone for 9 days.

Tulum Ruins, Mexico

I just recently returned from Pietermaritzburg SA. I went down there with my Uncle and BMX team USA for the BMX world cup. Check out my blog posts from Africa to see more of my trip!

Germany! Here I come! (and who knows, Team USA wants me to join them for next years championship in Holland. – oi, better start saving!
