A drive to Romance

When I first met up Jen and Matt I knew on the spot that I wanted to capture their wedding. They had such a fun idea! They had a Rolls Royce pick them up from the Ritz-Carlton downtown and we drove up to Flagstaff mountain where a Justice of the Peace met them and conducted the ceremony.

It was an adrenaline rush for sure. Chasing a Rolls-Royce up the mountain? Thank goodness I had my trusty Second-Shooter/Stunt Driver Isaac Small there to help! Jen and Matt left the next day for Mexico!

I guess you had to be there …

Today Sarah and Chris are celebrating their one-year anniversary!

These two are so adorable. Just a wonderful couple that really support one another. I really enjoy Facebook as a business owner because I am able to keep in contact with my clients from the past and its always great to hear how they are doing. These two are solid.

They got married at Meadow Creek in Pine. The day was so beautiful and the meadow was lush and green. The crew was great – Something about dollar bills and Vegas (I still don’t know what exactly that was about and I am ok with it) kept them entertained the whole day. Ok, I still see comments about Dollar bills on Facebook.

Congratulations to Chris and Sarah for the first year in your life-long journey keep on dancing!!!

And the Thunder Rolled

Tara and Paul recently had their one year wedding anniversary! Congratulations to these two! Now. Their wedding was quite memorable as it started out like any June day in Colorado. It was beautiful and sunny. They had their wedding at the Crystal Rose venue in Highlands Ranch. We went outside to have group photos before hand and everything was going just to plan. Paul and his boy’s were having a blast jumping over fences, and the girls were all chatting in the dressing room.

5 minutes before the ceremony was going to start (Bridal party was getting lined up to go out side) and a HUGE – I’m talking HUGE clap of thunder erupts overhead. And then the power went out. (Like I said, typical June day in Colorado). But the generators kicked in and the staff at the Crystal Rose did a speedy turn-around and in less than 10 minutes we were ready for the ceremony – now inside. It was great, and as always, the storm passed and we were able to do more portraits outside right after the ceremony, with the beautiful “after-the-rain light.”

The night continued with an awesome  slide show of embarrassing photos, cake cutting, and some crazy dancing. What a fun time that night was! Truly an unforgettable event! Congrats you two on a year of marriage!

Rain is good luck and great lighting!

Adam and Lily had a romantic, rainy day in Evergreen for their wedding. These two are too much fun! – Seriously, when you get the whole Bridal Party out on a deck in the rain running in circles, how can you not love them?

I met these two back in March when we had their engagement session. And from the second we started shooting, I could hardly wait for their big day. These two are so comfortable together. They have amazing chemistry between them and I am so excited I got to capture that! The rain did not dampen their spirits at all, if anything, it only added to their personalities.

Congratulations you two on your marriage!

Three Things Thursday

THREE THINGS THURSDAY

Three things about… Your Favorite Season

This is difficult. I love all seasons for different reasons. But Honestly, my favorite thing about the seasons is when it changes. It’s so exciting and new. Each season brings a new phase.

But my favorite season would have to be Spring.

1. Spring brings the promise of life. It brings flowers. That first glimpse of green, poking out from the once cold, frozen earth is the best feeling in the world. The Earth awakes from its long winter nap and we get to experience the beauty of it. And I tell ya, the Earth sure is a morning person! I must also say, that my favorite place to be during springtime is not the mountains. When I moved to Denver for school I remember being in complete awe of the trees on campus that actually bloomed! Trees that bloom are truly one of the most beautiful things.

2. Spring brings warmth. Once spring hits, you can feel the warmth in the air. A slight taste of the summer to come. Though it is still chilly, it is a different feel than that of the raw autumn chill. I love warmth, and just that slight change makes me smile.

3. Spring has the most amazing smells. It has the smell of freshly tilled soil, where seeds were just planted. It has the amazing, sweet smell of bearded iris as you stroll down the street. Spring brings the smell of rain (and yes most of the time snow as well). It has the scent of hope, of love, of beauty.

A day at the Playground

I am so excited for a few reasons, and they all involve the Pogar/Carlson family.

A few weeks ago Adriana emailed me and told me her husband Chris has started a new videography company and are looking for couples who are looking for video for their weddings. I am so excited to be working with them! They are such a fun couple and have a great background. If you would like info on their work feel free to contact me and I will give you more information.

I also got the privilege to take Adriana’s maternity photos! This was my first maternity shoot, and I gotta say,I really got into it.  We had so much fun, Monday was PERFECT! Not to hot, beautiful light and of course Adriana’s beautiful face! She is due at the beginning of July, they are expecting a baby girl!

Enjoy a few photos from the shoot 🙂

This one is just too funny! No idea what is going on here!

Evergreen Rodeo Queen

Every night I pay my dues to that wonderful creator of “the Golden Hour.”  I must be liked up there because for some reason the Golden hour always works for me.

At the end of March one of my old friends asked if I would take her head shot because she is entering in the Evergreen Rodeo Queen contest. I gladly said yes. She is a beautiful girl and I used to nanny her while I was in High School. I even took her to my schools studio so I could photograph her for some of my class projects.

The last day in March was a dreary one, cloudy and gray with a threat of rain. I went up to Evergreen early and got a worried call from her because she was getting hair and make-up done and wanted to make sure we could still shoot. I was all for it, though I really did not want to have to use my strobes and take it in a sheltered place. Natural light is so beautiful. As I was sitting in my car at 5:30 waiting to meet her my praying paid off. Out came the gorgeous sun. Here is one of the shots we took.

Shadows of winter linger

Snow. Here in Colorado you have to enjoy it at least a little bit. For me it is a love-hate relationship. I think snow is really pretty and I love the look of the frosted trees in the morning after a dusting of snow. But if I have to go out in it, I hate it. I’ll do it, don’t get me wrong, but it is one of my least favorite things. I am a romantic when it comes to snow. I like baking and cozying up on the couch with a cup of warm tea and reading the night away.

Fortunately, with this past spring storm that dropped 10 inches at out doorstep and 15 where my job is, I did not have to trek out in the icy, slushy mess.

I lit candles and enjoyed the evening with chocolate cookies and A Tale of Two Cities (along with a movie with Eric). My first tray of cookies came out a little crispy because my infatuation with my Jade plant’s shadow. So I turned the timer off and left the cookies in the oven for an extra 15 minutes while I took photos.

This imaged just reminded me how beautiful this time of year actually is. The fusion of winter and spring. The warmth of the candle with the beauty of life.
